F1 Labradoodle is a first generation cross between a pure Lab and a pure Poodle resulting in a healthier offspring! Hair type can be smooth like a Lab, wiry like an Irish Wolfhound or wavy/shaggy; they can shed a little or not shed at all. First generation Labradoodles are of excellent temperament and health and are a great choice for a family. The main advantage of F1 breeding is they have the highest possibilities of hybrid vigor. They look more like a hunting dog or a hound then a poodle.. they have wispy hair coats and are extremely smart and loving dogs. Less Grooming needs then a F1B or Multigen Labradoodle. Labradoodles are sociable, friendly, non aggressive, and extremely intuitive.
As first generation hybrids, these dogs have the added health benefits associated to Hybrid Vigour.  This is a phenomenon in animal breeding referring to the first cross between two unrelated purebred lines is healthier and grows better than either parent line.
Heterosis is the phenomenon where crossing two inbred lines can produce descendants with superior genetic foundation. Heterosis effect results in a healthier, more vigorous dog with a reduced chance of genetic disease. It is well known in all domestic animal breeding, hybrids 50%-50% mixes of two different breeds (first generation) will raise the chances of having less genetic diseases because all doubling of detrimental effects will stop in the first generation. This does NOT preclude the first generation cockapoo from developing a hereditary disease! This simply lowers the incidence of genetic/hereditary disease(s) in our pets. The genetic term for this is HETEROSIS EFFECT. This effect often gives non-related individuals stronger descendants than inbreeds.
